Our Mission

through the Holy Spirit we seek to:

  • worship God,
  • become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ, and
  • invite others to join us in this life-changing experience.

Our Vision

with Christ as our model, our vision is to:

  • reach out to our community,
  • care for individauls and families,
  • offer Spirit-filled worship, and
  • use our spiritual gifts.

Scriptural Basis for Our Vision

They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goodes, they gave to anyone as he had need.

Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Acts 2: 42-47 (NIV)

Prayer

The four guideposts of our vision are girded by an endless circle of unceasing prayer which is the driving force in all that we do.

Definition: Prayer is the activity of the people of God through which God's sovreignty is recognized and His will is unleashed.

Our Goal: that each person, group and committee at Markham Baptist Church:

  • trusts God in prayer to do the impossible in and through prayer;
  • depends on God both through individual prayer and in corporate prayer;
  • seeks God and His direction in everything we do;
  • seeks opportunities to deepen and strengthen individuals' prayer life; and
  • experiences the presence and power of God through corporate prayer.

Our Four Guideposts

Equipping

Definition: Equipping is the process of growing in faith and obedience, so that every day and in every way we are becoming more Christ-like.

Our Goal: that each person associated with Markham Baptist Church:

  • can express his/her own personal statement of faith;
  • demonstrates his/her faith in day-to-day living;
  • is involved in at least one discipleship group;
  • is accountable to someone else for his/her faith journey;
  • knows and utilizes his/her spiritual gift(s); and
  • is equipped and able to share his/her faith with others.

Caring

Definition: Caring is the expression of the self-giving love of Christ without prejudice or expectation of a return (John 15: 12 - 13).

Our Goal: that each person associated with Markham Baptist Church:

  • feels known by others;
  • feels their needs are known and are being met;
  • feels welcome in at least one small group; and
  • reflects the loving care of Christ to others in the church.

Outreach

Definition: Outreach is the proclamation of the love of Christ through word and deed to all people both locally and globally.

Our Goals:

  • that each household in Markham hear the gospel; and
  • that each person associated with Markham Baptist Church be involved in proclaiming the gospel locally and/or globally either:
    • through prayer; and/or
    • through providing resources; and/or
    • through direct involvement.

Worship

Definition: Worship is ascribing supreme honour to God in day-to-day living. This worship is given expression in the church as the people of God gather to praise God, adore God, thank God, pray to God and to hear His Word. It is the celebration of God.

Our Goal: that each person associated with Markham Baptist Church:

  • experience a personal expression of worship of the Living God on a regular basis.

As we move forward together with this vision for Markham Baptist Church, we do so with a deep faith that our God is not limited solely to what we have written in our current vision document. rather, we move forward with dependence upon Him, continually seeking to give glory to Him, realizing that our God is able.
